South Peel Naturalists’ Club (SPNC) runs a variety of activities, including year-round field trips, summer evening walks, and monthly indoor meetings featuring guest presenters covering a wide variety of topics for individuals and families with an interest in the natural world.
At the end of May each year, the Club organizes a weekend ‘retreat’ to the Red Bay area of the Bruce Peninsula, to explore the unique flora and fauna of its shorelines, lakes, alvars, fens, forests, fields, dunes, and of course, the Niagara Escarpment.
For over 45 years, SPNC members have organized and participated in the annual Christmas Bird Count — a record of bird species and numbers sighted in Mississauga / Oakville on count day — which is scheduled each year for the Saturday prior to Christmas.
